Immunofluorescence (IF)
Auto-immune: auto-self/ immune- antibody, a disease state where one’s antibodies act against the self(antigen).

Immunofluorescence (IF) –Immunofluorescence test tries to detect the antibodies. A technique wherein we tag a fluorochrome to the antibody to identify the antigen. It can be a direct technique where we try to find the antigen in the biopsy sample by a fluorochrome tagged antibody and an indirect technique where we try to find the antibody using and fluorochrome tagged antibody.

At CPathlabs, we use Immunofluorescence technique for screening and diagnosis of infections and autoimmune diseases.

Direct Immunofluorescence:
a) Vesicolobullous disorders of skin.
b) Immune mediated diseases of kidney.

Indirect immunofluorescence:
a) Immune mediated connective tissue diseases like lupus, mixed connective tissue diseases, Scleroderma, Systemic sclerosis, Sjogrens syndrome etc.
b)Neurological panels for autoimmune encephalitis
c)Liver profiles c)Liver profiles (Primary bilary cirrhosis, Primary sclerosing cholangitis, autoimmune hepatitis)
d) Inflammatory bowel disease screening .

The method has achieved the statusof combining high sensitivity with high resolution in the visualizationof antigens and will be a major tool for many years to come that anypathologist studying cells or molecules cannot afford to ignore.
